The client
Search Tube is one of CINQ’s own products: a site dedicated to the London Underground, for anyone curious about the network’s stations, lines and history.
The brief
The aim was a clear, browsable reference to every station on every line, with the story of how the network grew since 1863, and room for longer articles on its history and art.
The build
I built it in July 2026 on a custom Sage theme with Tailwind CSS and Vite. Stations are a custom post type tagged with a “line” taxonomy, so every station can be listed by line and zone, and each line shows how many stations it serves.
The station data is loaded by a seeder that also sideloads a properly licensed photograph of each station from Wikimedia Commons and stores the attribution that licence requires, so the whole directory can be rebuilt from source at any time.
An interactive timeline shows when every station opened, from the first seven in 1863 onwards, and can be filtered by line. Articles, such as a piece on Eduardo Paolozzi’s mosaics for Art on the Underground, sit alongside the reference pages, and site-wide search, powered by SearchWP, covers stations, lines and posts.
